Supplementary Information for Graduate Program Applicants

Graduate Record Examination test scores

Contact ETS.org to have your Electronic Official Graduate Record Examination test scores sent to us (institution code 2925; department code 2001, 2015 or 2016 – if you use a different institution code or selected SUNY C at Buffalo we will not receive the scores).

Application Fee

The application fee for our degree-granting graduate programs is $75.

In general, waivers of graduate application fees are not granted. Categorical exceptions are made only for those applicants who provide sufficient documentation of their participation as an undergraduate student in an EOP, HEOP or SEEK program within New York State (only), or as an undergraduate participant in the CSTEP, MARC, PREP, RISE, LSAMP or McNair Scholars programs on any campus, or as an applicant through Project 1000.

An appeal for a deferral (not a waiver) of the application fee can be made by applicants who provide documentation of their receipt of a GRE Fee Waiver.

Personal Statement/Statement of Educational and Career Goals

This is one way for the admissions committee to understand you better and to determine whether your educational needs can be met by our graduate training program. Please describe your major areas of interest in psychology and any special experience or skills you have acquired.

Depending on the program, we are particularly interested in your involvement in research or in volunteer work or employment in clinical agencies. You should indicate the research areas you might wish to work in, the kinds of graduate training you desire, and your professional goals. Any other information that you think might aid our decision should be included.

There is no minimum or maximum word count for the Statement.  The Statement should be uploaded to your online application and must have your name listed on the document.

Transcripts

Upload a scanned copy of every undergraduate and graduate institution transcript to your online application.  These may be official or unofficial transcript scans, but the document(s) must show your grades.  You may have your institution(s) mail us an official hard copy, ONLY if absolutely necessary.  Be sure to submit required documentation as instructed and do not send documents in multiple ways as this slows down your application processing.

If you must send an official hard copy of your transcript(s), you should arrange to have an official transcript bearing the seal of the institution sent to the address below for each college or university previously attended.

Note: Any student formally admitted to the program will be required to mail us an official copy of their undergraduate transcript.

The mailing address for official transcripts is:  Graduate Admissions, Deptartment of Psychology, Park Hall Room 213, University at Buffalo-The State University of New York, Buffalo, NY  14260-4110.

Letters of Recommendation

Letters of recommendation should be requested from three people who know your academic work or employment background.

We suggest that you contact instructors or employers who know and will describe your unique qualities, especially relevant research experience and skills. Letters of recommendation should be sent electronically via the online application system.  If absolutely necessary, letter authors may mail us a paper letter of recommention to our mailing address:  Graduate Admissions, Deptartment of Psychology, Park Hall Room 210, University at Buffalo-The State University of New York, Buffalo, NY  14260-4110.  Hard copies must be sealed and signed.  We cannot accept photocopies of letters.
